idk! fine! whatever! who cares! shut up!

Project: uNorth merch

Background

On what was maybe my 20th rewatch of Michael Clayton I wondered if there was lowkey merch for it (i.e. stuff that would only be recognized by other people who had seen it 20 times). The only semi-interesting stuff I found was for Kenner, Boch, & Ledeen. Which is good! But I wanted something with the uNorth logo. So! Let’s try to make it ourselves.

Logo

Not a lot of uNorth logos online, and even fewer print-quality transparent pngs or Illustrator files. I experimented in Canva with a bunch of fonts until I found something that seemed close enough.

Couldn’t get a few of the letters right out of the box so this became a very cludged together approximation.
Here’s the final version if anyone needs it. Not bad!

Hat

Next up: buy a single hat. Plenty of sellers with reasonable prices on ebay. I went for a Richardson 112, probably my go-to hat style. Just FYI.

Patch

OK here’s where things got bumpy. No good options for printing one-off patches so I had to go with Zazzle. (If you know of a better option please let me know.) Uploaded my file and gosh they sure look good on the website don’t they.

Sewing Attempt 01

2 big, 2 circular, 2 difficult to sew. I did not, as they say, have the horses for this.

Sewing Attempt 02

Better! idk! Not terrible! Seems legit-ish. The “we build your world together” line is barely legible at this size but I figure that adds to the real world lived-in character of the endeavor. When you really are enjoying what it is you do, who needs balance.
